The black flag of Al Qaeda was hoisted in Libya yesterday as Nato formally ended its military campaign.
The standard fluttered from the roof of the courthouse in Benghazi, where the country’s new rulers have imposed sharia law since seizing power.
Seen as the seat of the revolution, the judicial building was used by rebel forces to establish their provisional government and media centre.

Don't rush to buy into wingnut paranoia and propaganda. This story came from "The New American" (a Tea Bagger spank mag) and was covered only by the Daily Mail (UK wingnut paper). If they really did hoist the "al Qaeda flag" they's got some big ol' balls considering most regular Arab people hate their guts and Obama's fondness for drones.
Whether they did or didn't, it's a foregone conclusion that the Arab world will in the foreseeable future be inhabited and governed by whacked out religious fundamentalists. At least in this country we have a vocal opposition and alternative participation in our government and the religious fundies are just a part of the fabric. Over there they ARE the fabric.
I wouldn't be so pessimistic. It's not the 20th century anymore and Obama's done a good job of being less "Great Satan". Therefore the proles in Arab world aren't as bitter against the west and no longer so open to being duped again by fascists waving Korans at them and preaching Death to America. The loons are no longer "the fabric". There's more and more educated young people around now to stand up up to them - just like here I hope!
