JACKSON, Miss. – A fight is brewing in Mississippi over a proposal to issue specialty license plates honoring Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, who was an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan.
The Mississippi Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans wants to sponsor a series of state-issued license plates to mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, which it calls the "War Between the States." The group proposes a different design each year between now and 2015, with Forrest slated for 2014.
"Seriously?" state NAACP president Derrick Johnson said when he was told about the Forrest plate. "Wow."
Forrest, a Tennessee native, is revered by some as a military genius and reviled by others for leading the 1864 massacre of black Union troops at Fort Pillow, Tenn. Forrest was a Klan grand wizard in Tennessee after the war.
Yea, "Wow."

Trust me, I live in the rural south and there really are a lot of good honest, hardworking, reasonable people down here. People who will help anyone at any time if they need a hand, but we do seem to have an over abundance of fools.
The best thing southerners can do to change the way people view us is to RAGE against this type of insensitive ignorance. Really, talk about it and let the insensitive ignorant pricks know that you find racism and the glorification of the confederacy reprehensible. DO NOT STAND SILENT!
The only thing I can say to northerners and others outside our little sphere of southern culture is; please look closer. We're not all a bunch of KKK loving dumb fuck ignorant inbred hillbilly backwoods toothless morons.
Yes, the Civil War was all about slavery and yes, the south lost because their cause was unwinnable and unjust and yes, those who incited the rebellion were traitors to our nation and should have been executed including Lee, Davis AND Forest.
And no, the south will never rise again as long as southerners deny these facts and pull unbelievably imbecilic stunts like the above.

Whenever I've driven thru Mississippi I've been glad as hell to get out. It's like one of those weird neighborhoods that make you feel nervous except on a state scale. It makes Texas look fucking Sweden.
