Self evident truths. . .

"Capitalism is the extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men, for the nastiest of reasons, will somehow work for the benefit of us all." -John Maynard Keynes "

True 'dat.

I'm re-reading Marx just for the hell of it right now and I'm being irresistibly reminded how Freemarket capitalism working in partnership with a democratically elected government is the best system we can hope for in reality - even if it sucks in large part!

But what's the alternative? Listen to the "small government", "pro-people" radicals on the left or right and end up with a new Joe Stalin instead? I don't think so.

I guess, as usual, the key is the degree to which 'socialist' intervention is allowed to restrain the worst excesses of the "Bourgeoisie" and make life tolerable for us "Proletarians". America slides too far the wrong way thanks to the GOP. But I'm yet to hear from a rethug exactly what's so bad about Sweden or Germany where the
"big government socialism" is all the rage. We could definitely take a little slide their way.

Agreed Harbie. I like my "stuff" so a totally socialist agenda does not fit into mine.
Having said that, we can guarantee minimal stds. of living for the masses w/o compromising the free market and we can restrain the gross accumulation of wealth w/o inhibiting free enterprise.
Men will continue to explore, develop, and press on into new frontiers no matter how well the proletariat being treated.

Keynes was clearly a socialist, just like your President Obama. ;-)
