OK, so you want ot join the ranks of those who want to cut the national debt. I applaud you for that, afterall, I am a fiscal conservative, but could I just give you a small piece of information that might help you get a grip on what the real problem is with our spending problem and cash flow issues in this country. . .
Here's the first: Iraq and Afghanistan. It's real simple. $1.5 billion per day being spent in two wars we have no business being in. GET US THE FUCK OUTTA THERE LIKE YOU SAID YOU WERE GOING TO DO, ASSHOLE!!! It'll save us over $500 billion a year!
Ok, here's the second clue for you (I thought you were smart. Do you really need a dumb bubba like me giving you clues?): TAX THE RICH!: That's right, take away their loop holes. Make them pay a little higher percentage than the working class. Make it so that companies like GE and Exxon-Mobil actually pay taxes instead of paying no taxes and then getting "rebates." WTF is wrong with you for not addressing that problem to the American people, most of whom are living pay check to pay check.
There. Do those two things and our cash flow problems go away. No, really, have someone work up the numbers for you. I know you've gotta have a couple accountant types hanging around the White House.

Top wealthiest 1% pay 37% of income tax.
Top wealthiest 5% pay 57% of income tax.
Top wealthiest 10% pay 68% of income tax.
Top wealthiest 25% pay 85% of income tax.
Bottom poorest 50% pay 3% of income tax.
Bottom poorest 47% pay "nothing" and actually get upwards of $3000[income tax welfare] "free" from income tax. 12% of wealthiest over 50% likely pay little or no income tax.
Everyone rich or poor need to contribute a fair amount each year for income tax or they receive no social programs.
Strictly my opinion and I have kept down the four letter words and name calling so everyone can see what I'm saying.

Rainy, I looked at numbers for 2007. The top 1% cpntrolled 42.7% of the personal wealth in this country. That number has grown in the past 4 yrs.
Your numbers don't support your position in that light.
Frankly, I believe the wealthiest Americans should pay a lot more than anyone else. Progressive taxation is fair taxation.

Personal wealth in 2007 is different than how much income tax they paid. What about a flat tax for everyone of say 25%? Over there someplace [I think Sweden] they pay something like 50%.
Or this: How about everyone over 250K pay 50%, but we end the wars, have socialized medicine and all social programs disappear, we start up the Social Security Trust Fund again and replace all the money taken out by the Congress. The fund would only be used for retirement and nothing else. The money could only be used by a majority vote of the people.

Yes, wealth is different from income. Likewise, capital gains taxes are different too. The wealthy get a huge amount of their wealth from capital gains of which they only pay 15% tax.
When corpoations like GE and Exxon-Mobil pay no taxes, how does that effect the rich and their income. You gotta quit defending those who are beating you down and ripping you off Rainy!
When did we forget about the whole notion of giving back and social responsibility anyway? There was a time when the rich recognized that they were lucky and paid back into society, thru taxes and philanthropy, to help out those less fortunate. Now they want to cling onto 'their' money (made for them by other people's labor) and tell the rest of us to go to hell. It's fucking sick when you have single parent mom's working two jobs and paying taxes while rich cunts like the Kochs whine about paying a penny. You can shove that "Atlas Shrugged" bullshit - it's the rich who should be grateful to the poor and get some humility.
Herb, You're thinking of the Kennedys. Camelot is long gone and citing the few uber rich who do give back doesn't cut it. Interestingly, they are mostly the liberal uber rich and the ones who support higher taxes on the rich.
