When did that become a bad thing to be?
Can one political party really demonize another for being a "community organizer?"
I wonder how all the urban activists and rural outreach workers feel about the republicans belittling those who are "community organizers?"
I guess when your party is driven by corporate royalists, looking down on "community organizers" is OK.
Seriously, consider the nasty hateful tone of the republican convention compared to the upbeat, patriotic tone of the democrat convention last week. The republicans have yet to discuss any issues. . . none whatsoever. It's been one attack after another.

And what about all those "community organizers" in the 60's like Bayard Rustin, John Lewis, Stokely Carmichael, James Forman, Ella Baker, Josea Williams, Fannie Lou Hamer, H. Rap Brown, Medgar Evans, Revel Bevel and Northern students, white and black, who went into a dangerous South and went door to door, farm to farm, to get black people to register to vote?
Are they to be demonized too?
Mac, It's part of the right wing culture of only catering to the white base at the expense of all others.
It may break them this election cycle.
I am a microbiologist but I returned to school for my master's as a Community health organzier. Damn right I'm pissed obviously people don't realize how much dedication, time, and effort is spent trying to make the lives of other people better, often without monentary gain.
Wow, wasn't Jesus the ultimate community organizer?
I am with ya Sagacious. They were mocking his selflessness, something those dancing CEOs know nothing about.
Yeah Sagacious, this was the one thing in her speech that didn't really flow with the rest of it. It didn't come off as witty, smooth, or charming like the rest of it did.
Maybe that's when her teleprompter stalled and she had to ad lib...

I found Palin's speech disturbing for many reasons, and I was compelled to write about just one of those reasons today (she's an expendable pawn and doesn't even realize it... or chooses to ignore it).
As you mention here, the speech was negative, condescending, didn't cover a single issue, and made her comment regarding the difference between "politicking and campaigning" a big fat juicy joke.
I am a registered Democrat and Obama supporter. But I watched Palin with hopes that she would do women proud as a VP pick. Tisk Tisk. Shame on her, McCain, and the entire GOP for chronic poor performance and an obvious love for only the richest and most corrupt.

Thing is, you just know a south Chicago community organizer has way more work and responsibility than the mayor of a town of 7,000. And Palin had a high-paid chief administrator to do all the heavy lifting for her.
Rude Pundit has a great assessment of the Palin speech at his blog.
